I had my first dinner party in my new dining room last night!

I spent the better part of yesterday unpacking the good dishes, crystal, linens, etc. and putting them in the new cabinet. I found things (like the handblown vase I got in Caracas) that I had totally forgot since this stuff was packed up in May 2000. I got things nicely arranged on the shelves and then I closed the doors and realised that the things I had carefully placed in the middle to be front and centred were now hidden behind the doors. :) So I had to do some rearranging. The bad thing is that nothing in the cabinet is currently clean. I was so exhausted from dragging boxes from all over the house to the dining room and unpacking that I didn't have time. So, one day soon I'll have to spend an afternoon washing everything in the cabinet.

My first dinner guests were of course Mom and Dad and Tyr. They have all been so amazing to me since my daughter was born, how could they not be my first guests.

Now, I can start having people over for dinner - or at least have that option for my social life.

Thank you. They had a good time. It didn't end up being as formal as I'd thought. Because, I didn't have time to clean all the good dishes and china, we ate off the everyday dishes and used the wine glasses that go in the dishwasher. I didn't put a centrepiece or candles on the table because when you have 5 (or 5 1/2) people, there is so much food and passing going on that they become one more thing to knock over.

But the food was great. My husband is an excellent cook and he made a very tender, slow-cooked pork roast.

lol you are right. Another thing to knock over is bad.

I would love to taste InQs cooking one day. You guys had me drooling after the play. :)
