The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants [Aug. 31st, 2006|11:49 pm]
Vesta-Venus
After finishing The Silmarillion, I decided that I wanted to read something lighter and that would not take me a year to read it.

I actually went looking for The Horse and his Boy but it was out. All six other books were in. Actually the same thing happened to me when I went looking for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe - it was out and all six of the others were in. Strange.

So, I went for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, since so many of my girls loved in when it came out five years ago. I was thinking, "Wow, this is going to be such a contrast from Tolkien" when I opened the cover. The first words in the book are "Not all who wander are lost".

I enjoyed the movie more than I expected to (I was watching it as a fluffy popcorn movie).

It's realy engaging for a book about girls half my age. When I write, I tend to write using teenage protagonists too. I'm not sure why. Maybe because it's easier to have the characters have experiences and grow than it is with adult characters (since many adults get stuck in ruts and never grow). Since books need action and crisis to be interesting, too many adult books always begin with someone getting divorced or widowed since those are the two easiest (and thus cliqued) ways to throw crisis at an adult. Teenagers seem to provide infinitely more opporunities for change.

Sorry. Confused by this. Do you not already have a copy of the Narnia series?
