She got a makeover. I can see the need for modernizing, but she also lost about 40 pounds. Check out those arms. I (tongue in cheek) asked my husband, "Meth or coke?" He said it looked more like good old fashioned sticking your finger down your throat after each meal. Well she's got to compete with those vapid, Paris-Hilton-eque Bratz.

What on earth are we teaching our daughters?

I don't think she lost weight. I just think she is wearing more flattering clothing. I think she looks like a more typical little girl now.

I think it's a shame they got rid of the cat.

This is the new offical line up: http://www.agkidzone.com/meet_strawberry.action

This is an interesting article (espeically the cirticism section on the retconning): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strawberry_Shortcake

I intially thought they charged some characters race or gender, but it seems that they just dropped certain ones or renamed them and I'm remembering wrong. I never had Strawberry Shortcake stuff; my cousins did, so I only played with it occasionally.

No one seems to mention the Victoria Beckham-ish thinnification except the one site I saw it on. Same site mentioned a few months back how the "Sweet Valley High" books have been updated. I never read them, but apparently the protagonists in the 90's were described as "perfect size 6's" and now they are "perfect size 4's".

It's one thing to promote fitness and being in shape to kids. It's another to sell them on needing to be a size 2 or 4.
