Strange Day [Jun. 15th, 2004|11:50 am]
Vesta-Venus
Yesterday was an odd day. My vision for it had been for us to focus on cleaning up the house, but that kept getting de-railed by a variety of things:

-I had cramps and wasn't feeling particularly energetic.

-This is the week, my husband has to publish the quarterly church newsletter. So, we had discussions about the newsletter, in particular about how to handle one person. The church had had two dialogue days about a particular issue. One person submitted their piece from that to the newsletter and was quite indignant when my husband suggested that rather than publish it divorced from other opinions that we collect everyone's opinion and publish a separate issue on that topic.

-My husband picked yesterday to inform me that had had just created his own LJ and had some questions for me about icons, communities, etc. (He was formerly referred to as GF in my LJ, but now he's mr_messy)

-We got an email out of the blue from someone we used to know really well circa 1991-93. We last saw this person at our wedding in 1996. Recently something happened to remind him of us and he searched the internet and wrote us an email. Talk about a shock. So, we emailed back and forth a couple of times.

So, lots of changes happened in our lives yesterday, even if none of them resulted in a cleaner bathroom ...

Oh God honey after the day you have had...
It's a web site and also a Yahoo Group, these people came up with a way to get your house organized, and the two big things that make this work that other ways don't, are this:
[1] You do NOT have to try and "catch up." there'a no sense of blame, or oh you're such a screw up for not getting whatever done. and
[2] You do stuff in whatever baby steps you are ready for and that's accepted.
I have the best of intentions but some nights, a LOT of nights, I don't get it all done. This method forgives that. It makes a huge difference.
After the day you had I think it would help you. They send out reminder emails to you throughout the day (make sure to use an account that is not easily full!) and break the chores up in to little manageable sections.

I signed up today. I'll update in a few weeks about whether these tips help.

It's a great idea doing it in baby steps. Before we bought a Victorian house that needed renovating, when we only had an apartment, I would go on spurts of trying to keep the place looking like Martha Stewart lived there, and then get bored with it after a couple of weeks.

Since the house and espcially since the baby, I have had no such bursts of house-wifey motivation.

Thanks for the tip.

I save the Zone EMails and some others that do not repeat every day, and do them when I feel like it. It's more than I WAS doing and I don't feel all guilty now.
